Teitanblood: Purging tongues
10/07/12 || sincan
Teitanblood, the only good metal band from Spain, have kept silent for a while after their masterpiece “Seven chalices” and it was with excitement one saw the update on Norma Evangelium Diaboli’s website revealing the artwork for the “Purging tongues” EP.
When it comes to the only track on this EP I have one major dilemma (maybe based in the fact that I don’t speak that much Spanish, I can say puta madre, maricon, perro, cerveza and other useful words)… The thing is that there is a fuckin’ old man, he is probably drinking a little bit too much sangria, talking like a fucken madman during almost the whole track. He might say some awesome stuff, like revealing the meaning of life and death or something, but I don’t understand anything, and it’s not like I’m going to investigate that further (except for the part where I checked what he was talking about so that I save myself from looking like a complete fool if it was taken something really famous, however sources says that it’s a recitation from “the Revelations”).
This Spanish old fella, let’s call him Alfonso is chanting in the background while the two members in Teitanblood are trying to play their fucking song. You who have heard Teitanblood before know that these two guys can create some chaos with their messy death and black metal hybrid and when you add Mr. Alejandro the sound turns into something similar to total fucking chaos. And back to my dilemma, I don’t know if my godforsaken ears thinks that Mr. Alfonso is adding something to the song or if he is trying to ruin it. Actually Mr. Alberto is quiet for a while and then one can focus totally on only J and NSK but after a while Mr. Antonio starts chanting again.
What we have here is not the typical blackened death metal (which in theory seems awesome but is usually in reality boring as heaven) instead it’s a rather dirty combo of the two styles were I find most of the black influences in the vocals and in the atmosphere and some death in the massively chaotic handled instruments. The production is, to no one’s surprise, dirty in a good way.
Teitanblood is, with their wall of sound, delivering some hellish chaos (good) music but in my opinion this release lacks some heaviness compared to “Seven chalices”.
